TANNENBAUM TALKS ABOUT LT, CROMARTIE, & THE DRAFT

Mike Tannenbaum has been a busy man the past few years.  He’s been the main architect building the up-and-coming Jets with shrewd trades and signings.  This offseason has been no different.  Tannenbaum has been faced with tough decisions which resulted in the Kerry Rhodes being sent to the Cardinals and Thomas Jones signing with the Chiefs.  He’s also added Antonio Cromartie with a trade and LaDainian Tomlinson through free agency.  The Jets general manager joined Brandon Tierney of ESPN New York to discuss the moves.

BODY BY JAMARCUS: RUSSELL IS “GETTING IN SHAPE”

JaMarcus Russell has had a rocky stint in the NFL since being drafted. The former #1 overall pick with a massive contract hasn’t met expectations. On top of that, people have criticized him for his weight and lack of commitment. JaMarcus is attempting to change all of that by getting in shape and Raiders exec Willie Brown says people will be “surprised” when they see him.

ADALIUS THOMAS SEZ HE DOESN’T WANT TO JOIN JETS

There’s been much speculation about Adalius Thomas and his perceived rift with the Patriots. There have been reports linking him to a move to the Jets mostly based on his past with Rex Ryan. However, Thomas says that simply isn’t the case.

LaDainian Tomlinson will join the New York Jets

The Jets did a lot of recruiting in a small amount of time. A little over 48 hours of wooing, LaDainian Tomlinson agreed to become a member of the Jets. And this was after a visit and a pitch from the Vikings which is said to have “wowed” the former Chargers running back. Now, Tomlinson will take his place as the third or possibly even second man in the Jets backfield.

IS THE T.O. SHOW HEADING TO OAKLAND?

Terrell Owens isn’t exactly a hot commodity right now. His visit to Cincinnati was delayed by a day and then the team signed Antonio Bryant to a long-term deal. T.O. is still without a team and now he may be forced to take whatever he can get. That may include a stint with the Raiders.

Mark Sanchez & Joe Namath with their fu manchu slash trucker mustaches

I really blew it on this one. I knew that there were pictures of Mark Sanchez at this event but I didn’t think they looked exciting. That’s because I had no idea that Mark Sanchez was growing a Joe Namath-style trucker mustache. Obviously, it doesn’t really show up that well in the thumbnails. This isn’t the first time that Mr. Sanchez has attempted to grow a mustache. But this iteration is more bold and stylish than the “dirty” ’stache he rocked earlier in the season.

The recession has hit every hard including LaDainian Tomlinson. The former Chargers running back is still on the job hunt and visiting the Vikings today. Tomorrow, LaDainian will visit the Jets so long as he doesn’t close a deal with the Vikings after his visit today.

We’re in the doldrums between the combine and the NFL Draft. Thankfully, we have Ben Roethlisberger to help us pass the time. For the second offseason in a row, Roethlisberger is facing allegations of sexual assault. But he says that his contact with a Georgia College & State student was not “consummated.”

ARE THE 49ERS TRYING TO SIGN LEON WASHINGTON?

Thomas Jones will be released by the New York Jets but may re-sign

Thomas Jones will be released tomorrow to avoid paying him his $3.3 million roster bonus and $2.8 million salary. But that might not be the end of his run in New York. ProFootballTalk reports that the Jets will try to re-sign Jones once he becomes a free agent.
