Screw you, Gary Riggs. He’s the guy that hurt Baylor standout quarterback Robert Griffin. Griffin had started the season relatively slowly, but I considered him one of three guys that could really break out this year (Pryor and Locker were the other ones).
Griffin was on his way to a monster day when he was taken down by Gary Riggs in the first quarter. Griffin completed the first half and managed to rack up 226 passing yards and three touchdowns against Northwestern State. That’s some Dennis Dixon style toughness. An MRI later revealed that he tore his ACL in his right knee. He’s expected to miss the rest of the season.
It’s unfortunate that Griffin’s season is over but I think he has a bright future. Griffin has legit sprinter’s speed (Gatorade Texas Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year as a junior in high school) and turned down offers from schools like Texas that wanted him to play receiver. He went to Baylor and was immediately successful as a true freshman. We’ll have to wait until next year to see if Griffin turns himself into a star. But until then, enjoy the ridiculous highlights from his freshman year. Michael Vick Experience?
