Derek Jeter may be the King of New York but he is not quite as loved in Tampa. DJ is building a 30,000+ square foot home on Davis Island that will become the largest house in Tampa. Jeter bought three lots on Davis Island and razed the existing homes to make way for his mansion. However, Jeter’s plan to build a six-foot-tall wall around his residence has ruffled the feathers of other community members.
Apparently, homeowners are only allowed to build walls that are four feet high. Hilariously, the Davis Islands Civic Association board voted 12-6 to reject Jeter’s request. The only issue with that decision is that it really doesn’t matter. In an effort to get the wall approved, Jeter’s request will be presented to the Tampa Variance Review board tomorrow. Oh, Jeter also has another five bedroom, five bathroom home in Tampa.

Tampa, Florida — Derek Jeter’s attempt to build an outfield-sized wall around his new 30,000-plus-sq. ft. Davis Islands home has, well, run into a bit of a wall.
The Yankees star is looking for an exception to the city’s three-foot-tall limit on solid walls, citing privacy and security issues at the waterfront mansion. His request for a six-foot-tall concrete and wrought-iron fence will go before Tampa’s Variance Review Board on Tuesday, August 11.
But according to Ken Elmore, a member of the Davis Islands Civic Association, the board voted 12-6 to reject the request. While the association has no actual authority when it comes to Jeter’s request, Elmore says the group will take the results to next week’s review meeting, hoping to sway the variance board.
Elmore writes that board president Jeffrey Siewart encouraged other board members to vote against the variance “to maintain the precedence set by other front yard requests and to comply with the City Code as stated.”
Jeter is currently building Tampa’s largest home (1.26 acres, 7 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms) on three lots on Bahama Circle, a quiet Davis Islands street built along the East side of Hillsborough Bay.

Instead of building a second mansion in Tampa, why doesn't Jeter build his second house in a city that's not a huge piece of shit.
