FAT LID: CERVELLI WILL USE MASSIVE S100 HELMET

Francisco Cervelli will wear a Rawlings S100 helmet

Francisco Cervelli is working his way back from being hit in the head by a pitch and he’ll have a slightly different look. The Yankees’ catcher has opted to wear the Rawlings S100 helmet. You may have noticed the helmet last year on David Wright, Ryan Dempster, and Shane Victorino.

Cervelli said that Yankees manager Joe Girardi encouraged him to wear the helmet but gave him the choice whether or not to do so. Cervelli didn’t seem to mind the new headgear and remarked that he’d do “whatever it takes” to stay in the majors. He’ll get his first chance to try it out in a game situation on Friday.

The catcher doesn’t seem to have a problem with becoming a human bobblehead for safety’s sake. But he did note that the helmet was “ugly” and that the helmet did add extra weight. Considering Cervelli has had two concussions in the past four months, it’s probably a good idea to go with the extra protection. Now let’s see if he can break David Wright’s personal record and wear the S100 for more than two games.
