Advocacy groups are somewhat hilarious. As you may know, one group wants to air an anti-abortion ad with Tim Tebow during the Super Bowl. A much smaller group called “Protect Our Children” is out to stop Pete Townshend from performing during the the Super Bowl’s halftime show. Can’t you tell how much he loves child porn just by looking at that picture?
Protect Our Children will send the “sex offender alert” above to homes and schools near Sun Life Stadium (aka Dolphins Stadium). 1500 homes will receive the notice by the time the game rolls around next week. The flyer actually looks somewhat official and hilarious lists his known associations as the NFL and Bridgestone Tire Company. Previously, they had also nicknamed the halftime show the “Pedopalooza.”
The group also tried to claim that Townshend was an illegal immigrant saying he failed to meet the “moral turpitude” standard set forth by the I.N.S. Protect Our Children’s other activities include an internet sting team they call “The Stingers” that attempts to catch online predators.
It’s worth noting that Townshend was caught in a child pornography investigation in 2003. He wasn’t convicted of a crime but was registered in the British sex offender database for five years. His Wikipedia entry says that he had previously written essays against child pornography and Townshend says that the incident occurred when he was doing research for a book.
