It’s hard to keep up with the name of the Dolphins’ home stadium. It’s had names including Joe Robbie Stadium, Pro Player Park, Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, and Land Shark Stadium. That’s six names in a little over 22 years and now there will be a seventh name.
The new name for the stadium will be Sun Life Stadium. Sun Life Financial signed a five-year deal with options that could extend the deal for up to 20. The agreement will be worth about $5 million a year but up to $7 million if the Dolphins or Marlins (before they move out in 2012) reach certain points in the playoffs. Above is a rendering of the potential addition of a metal roof that would cover seating but leave the stadium open.
