The acquisition of Marian Gaborik is already paying off. The New York Rangers star winger netted two goals in the Rangers’ victory over the Capitals.
Washington was up 3-2 in the third period after two goals by Nicklas Backstrom. One of the goals was an embarrassing half-ice effort that got past Henrik Lundqvist. That’s when Gaborik started earning his millions by scoring twice in a span of 2:33.
Head coach John Tortorella remarked that he didn’t “think he was playing all that great up until that point.” Henrik Lundvist reacted to Gaborik’s effort by saying, “That’s a goal-scorer for you. That’s why we signed him.”
The Rangers look dangerous with the addition of Gaborik and other young guns. If Gaborik can stay healthy and the young players develop, the Rangers could be playing more than just one playoff series this year.
