One of the best centers in the past 20 years is available. Peter Forsberg has been skating with his hometown team of Modo. He’s currently playing in the Karjala Cup — potentially auditioning for a move to Russia or the NHL.
It’s unclear how good Forsberg could be playing at the highest level. However, he probably still has gas left in the tank at 36. Players of his caliber can play well into their 40s. The Swede has averaged over 1.25 points per game during his career in the NHL. That puts him in the top ten ALL-TIME for points per game.
Rangers GM Glen Sather said of Forsberg, “Yes, we have interest in Forsberg. From the reports we’ve been getting, the foot is much better than it was a year ago.” So you can bet that the Rangers will make a run at him if the price is right. He could become the permanent first line center with Prospal and Gaborik. Currently, Forsberg is rumored to potentially sign with Ak Bar Kazan, but there has been little movement on that front.
