This is not something you will see often in a hockey game. Most goals are scored with the puck along the ice from within 20-30 feet of the net. However, Mason Raymond was able to score from just about 100 feet away on Miikka Kiprusoff.
Raymond was digging around the center red line with another teammate and a few opponents when he scored the luckiest goal of his life. At that point, the puck happened to end up on his stick so he flipped it high into the zone. What followed next was a once-in-a-lifetime shot. Raymond’s shot (that was more likely just a dump-in attempt) ended up landing right in front of the Flames’ goalie before bouncing into the net. The puck was behind Kiprusoff before he had even located it.
The goal was actually one of three that Mason Raymond netted on the night. I’m sure that it will be the most memorable as well. It’s just too bad it doesn’t count for more than one point.
