TOUR DE FREAKS 2009

In America, fans wear hats or jerseys to support their teams. Some individuals even paint themselves to show their support. Yeah, that’s a little strange. But it’s not quite as random as the Tour de France followers. I guess most of them just want to get on TV because they don’t seem to care about disrupting the race. Obviously, there are the extremely drunk Americans who have the USA flag and want to run next to Lance. Beyond that, it seems like a bunch of nutty, wine-guzzling Euros. I can’t really set this one up any better. The pictures speak for themselves. My favorite is this “doping dude” with the strainer on his head. He looks like he could be Jack Black’s cousin and I’m surprised he doesn’t have white crap in the corners of his mouth. nc5r3vt9ha

Evidently, it isn’t enough for many Tour followers to find a place along the course and cheer on their favorite riders. No, some feel obligated to actually enter the race, especially in the mountain stages when they crowd the course and wave banners and flags in front of riders like a matador. Some even jump right in and run alongside the cycling stars.

On Sunday, Alberto Contador had to shrug one groping fan aside as he attacked a climb en route to the yellow jersey. Occasionally there are mishaps, like the time in 2003 when Lance Armstrong was charging up a mountain climb and a young fan waving a yellow souvenir bag caught Armstrong’s bars, sending him crashing to the asphalt.

I think that the guy with the strainer on his head looks more like real life model for King of the Hill's Bill Dauterive.

My favorite is "the pope". Obviously the antithesis of "the devil"! Now that is clever!
