The United States Men’s National Team was riding high after qualifying for the World Cup. Then they found out early Wednesday that teammate Charlie Davies had been seriously injured in a car accident.
Davies was the passenger in a vehicle that lost control around 3:15 AM. The driver was not identified and the other passenger, Ashley Roberta, was killed in the accident.
The United States soccer star suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg, facial fractures, and a fracture in his left elbow. Doctors inserted titanium rods in both of his broken leg bones. Davies’ chances to play in the World Cup and, perhaps, his soccer career may be in jeopardy. The United States faces Costa Rica tonight at 7:30 PM on ESPN2.
