I’m a huge Jozy Altidore fan. He’s the only American player that has a pure striker’s mentality. It’s tough to defend him because he can turn instantly with power and speed. He’s not perfect though. He lacks focus at times and occasionally tries to blast the ball from close range. At 19, his career is just beginning and he’s played in the Spanish league and MLS. He recently moved to Hull City in the English Premier League.
His transfer to Hull City was just completed and Altidore had a stunning debut. Visa problems and the swine flu scare had delayed him and he arrived to the field by helicopter. Jozy came on as a substitute in the 60th minute and made an immediate impact. With his first touch, he set up Kamel Ghilas for a great goal (video below). Later, Altidore almost scored on his own but the weighted volley went just wide. That was this weekend. On Tuesday, Jozy got his first start for Hull City in the Carling Cup and scored off a set piece. I’m not sure if Jozy will be a star in the Premier League. But I do hope he reaches the next level before the 2010 World Cup.
