File this under: things that are funnier when they happen to somebody else. It probably feels pretty good to know that you’re a professional athlete at any level. That’s why these German soccer players probably don’t have much to be ashamed of… even though they look like idiots. In a match between TSV Wimsheim and TSV Grunbach, Grunbach accidentally scored on themselves off of a goal kick with help from a strong gust of wind.
The video is truly amazing. Grunbach looks to send the ball downfield on a goal kick… except it doesn’t seem to go as planned. The ball looks like it goes almost straight up in the air off of the kick. Then, you can see players realize that the ball is starting to go in the opposite direction. Everybody starts hustling back towards the goal before the ball bounces once and ends up in the net.
The goal opened scoring and gave Wimsheim a 1-0 lead. Hilariously, that ended up being the difference in the game as Grunbach fell 2-1. Good thing this didn’t happen in South America. Or else they may’ve found “wind” shot to death in a bar.
