After hitting a game winning HR and being pied in the face by AJ Burnett, Johnny Damon had a championship belt over his shoulder during his post-game interview. I couldn’t get a picture of his computer’s wallpaper in his locker, but I believe it was this picture of his wife, Michelle (courtesy of SI.com):
Why wouldn't he put this up in his locker?
Here are some shots of Damon rocking his championship belt. Do you think he got it for locking down this fine woman, or because he’s hitting around .315 with 10 HRs with the 2nd deck in Right Field being dubbed “The Damon Deck”? Whichever reason you prefer, I’d say he deserves it.
UPDATE: Today’s NY Daily News has provided the origin story of the belt. Here’s the excerpt from the article by Peter Botte:
Damon, a big wrestling fan, was given a WWE replica championship belt earlier this season by Burnett and the pitcher’s children as a gift after he showed them some wrestling moves. The belt has since been awarded to whomever Damon deems to be the star player of each victory, and it found its way back to his locker Sunday.
“Melky had it two nights ago, (Saturday) night it went to Alex and I just got it back,” Damon said with the belt draped over his left shoulder. “It doesn’t seem like we’ve had an easy game yet this year, but we’ll take any victory we can.”
