Yankees Pitcher AJ Burnett Going “Just Mustache”

A nasty 'stache for a nasty dude

A nasty 'stache for a nasty dude

New York Yankees fans may have noticed during Tuesday night’s start against the Rangers, AJ Burnett had something of a strawberry blonde shadow over his lip. Well during Wednesday nights pregame, we saw a few shots of Burnett sitting on the Yankee bench and it appears that he indeed growing a mustache. This may not seem newsworthy to most, but we here at BigLeagueScrew are fans of Big League Mustaches.

Recent Yankees including Jason Giambi, Brian Bruney and Johnny Damon have all rocked the ‘stache at one point or another, and the Yankees have a long history of star players with mustaches. Don Mattingly, Goose Gossage, Catfish Hunter, Ron Guidry, Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield were all prominent Bronx Bombers who sported the ol’ soup strainer. On the other side of town in Queens, you can’t say the word “mustache” without someone saying “are you talking about Keith Hernandez?”.  Many more Yanks wore mustaches due to George Steinbrenner’s strick policy regarding grooming and facial hair, but that does not make it any less cool in my book.

Check out some pics below of AJ Burnett’s fledgling ‘stache and some other important mustaches in history. Did I leave out any important ones?

love the new layout for the site, but when this AJ Burnett moustache article comes up, his moustache is hidden by the article preview… lame!

    • This is a low rent operation, Barth. Cut us some slack.
