NATE ROBINSON TO SIGN NEXT WEEK?

57073124

Where have we heard this one before? Nate Robinson is said to be close to a deal with the Knicks. FanHouse spoke to his agent, Aaron Goodwin, and learned that he really doesn’t have any other options. Goodwin says he hasn’t talked to any teams since June and he expects Nate to sign a deal by next week. We’ll believe it when we see it.

Via FanHouse:

This much is said to be certain: Nate Robinson will play for the New York Knicks this season.

“Yes, I’m 100 percent sure of that,” his agent, Aaron Goodwin, said Tuesday in an interview with FanHouse. “Where else is he going to go?”

Well, the 5-foot-9 guard is a restricted free agent. And, while it’s highly unlikely a team would put an offer down on him at this late stage and in this economy, isn’t that still a possibility?

“No,” Goodwin said. “Nate has made it clear from the start that he only wants to play for New York. After July 1, we didn’t talk to any other teams.”

That includes other countries.

“That was never a consideration,” Goodwin said of Robinson possibly going overseas after reports surfaced over the summer he was pondering signing with the Greek team Olympiakos.

Goodwin expects Robinson to return to New York on a one-year deal, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer. Goodwin expects a deal will be finalized by next week.

NATE & D-LEE’S LUNCH DATE TO DECIDE FATE

Sources say that the Knicks two young players feel “disrespected” by the Knicks’ (lack of) effort to resign them.  Here’s the tweet from Domi-Nate:

Cid_nate-nyc_billboard_normalnate_robinson: and ill be have n lunch wit my boy david lee to talk about our future with the knicks, this should be an interesting lunch, hope we stay n ny

The good news is that Nate’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, said he’s confident that the two sides can reach a deal.  A source expects Robinson to sign a deal worth between $4-5 million per year.  That’s very close to the offer the he reportedly received from Olympiakos.  David Lee’s agent has requested around $12 million per year for his client.  I wonder if Nate is trying to convince D-Lee to stay in town for less money.
