TIM WAKEFIELD IS ALREADY IN MIDSEASON FORM… FAT

Tim Wakefield leaning on a wall with coffee at spring training

Many of the Red Sox are already at camp in Fort Myers, Florida to prepare for the 2010 season. Boston.com was on the scene to provide us with a nice photo gallery of the first day. There are a lot of familiar sights at Sox camp. Kevin Youkilis is still extremely ugly. Josh Beckett still has a stupid looking bush goatee (and is fat). But this post is about Tim Wakefield.

Tim Wakefield as a baseball player is equivalent to a prop comic. He can’t overpower your with raw ability and you pretty much know what’s coming. You might even call him lazy and predictable. That’s why it’s no surprise that Wakefield is still sporting a gut. You’d think he might want to lose some weight considering he missed most of the last two months of the season with back and leg injuries.

You can see the entire Red Sox spring training gallery here.

KNICKS’ BIGGEST LOSER EDDY CURRY SET TO RETURN

Knicks Mavericks Basketball

Eddy Curry is large and in charge — but less so. The Knicks overpaid center has slimmed down in an effort to become a basketball player again. Curry hasn’t played in over a year and a half but may return this week.

Knicks’ coach Mike D’Antoni said Curry may return on Wednesday in Indiana but that “he can’t have anymore setbacks.” By setbacks, does he mean cheeseburgers? Here’s what Curry had to say about D’Antoni:

“Given that (D’Antoni’s) system is based on running, it’s definitely hard,” Curry said. “But I think I’m catching on and he is being very patient with me.”

It’s unclear if Curry can be an effective NBA player at any point in the near future. Though, it seems doubtful that the Maurice Clarett/Mike Williams Conditioning Program will work out. But hey, Michael Jordan was able to come back after a long time away from the game. So at least there’s hope. With the return of Curry, the Knicks will regain the league lead in two categories: players that contribute nothing and neck tattoos.

CARLOS ZAMBRANO IS NOT LAZY, HAS HOT BODY

Carlos Zambrano admitted last week that he was lazy. But he doesn’t like it when other people mention his laziness. The Cubs hurler blew up on Friday about an article published in the Chicago Sun-Times. Zambrano blasted writer Carol Slezak saying he wanted her to see him shirtless “so that she can see my body and she can see what type of body that I have.” He went on to say that he got hurt because people get hurt and he’s not a machine.  Makes sense to me.  I hope that this verbal sparring does eventually turn into “physical confrontation.” If not, maybe Zambrano can at least call Slezak fat at some point in the near future.

Pirates Cubs Zambrano Ejected Baseball

Via Chicago Sun Times:

He was particularly upset by a Carol Slezak column in the Sun-Times this week that included this message: ”If I were running the Cubs, I’d be looking for a way to make this lazy pitcher somebody else’s problem.”

Zambrano’s response: ”That lady that says I was lazy, I want to see her on Tuesday. I want to be with no shirt so that she can see my body, and she can see what type of body I have. If I’m lazy, lazy people don’t have this body, so I’m going to show her my guns so that she can call me lazy again.

”I’m sorry, people get hurt. We are human, and we get hurt. … We are not machines.”
