Rangers head coach John Tortorella and New York Post writer Larry Brooks don’t exactly have the best relationship. A few years ago while coaching the Lightning, Tortorella told Brooks to “get the f*ck out” of the press area after a game. The two had a similar tiff yesterday after the Rangers lost to the Flyers.
Much of the post-game Q&A focused on the Marian Gaborik and Daniel Carcillo fight. The two got tangled up while a scrum was breaking out when Gaborik decided to drop the gloves and promptly got his ass beat. Some of the reporters wanted to know why none of the other Rangers’ players jumped in to rescue the team’s leading scorer. When Larry Brooks asked about the incident, Tortorella jumped all over him. You can check it out below (happens a bit after 2:00):
Clearly, Tortorella wasn’t really interested in answering Brooks. He was still fuming about a recent column where Larry Brooks said he thought Wade Redden getting into a fight was “funny.” Gaborik getting his ass handed to him by Carcillo wasn’t certainly ideal. I can’t really blame Brooks for asking about it but I also can’t really blame Tortorella for snapping back. Here’s the video of Gaborik dancing with Daniel Carcillo:
When Mariusz Pudzianowski kicks ass, it typically involved tire-flipping, bar-bending, and other feats of strength. Now, it actually involves ass kicking. It seems that the World’s Strongest Man wanted to expand his horizons and gave MMA a try.
Super Mario is an interesting guy. He plays rugby, considers himself a singer, and has appeared on Polish Dancing With The Stars. He’s also been in prison and claims to eat 10 eggs and two to three pounds of bacon for breakfast. Oh yeah, he’s also won World’s Strongest Man a record-breaking five times.
Mr. Pudzianowski comes in at a robust 6′1″ and 275 pounds. He’s much more cut up than your typical WSM contestant. Unlike those dudes, he doesn’t have a massive “strength gut.” Instead, he looks like a guy that Van Damme would fight at the end of a movie in the late 80’s — essentially a Polish Chong Li or Tong Po. I attribute that to good genetics and extreme steroid abuse. Maybe HGH too.
This past weekend, Pudzianowski fought in his first mixed martial arts match. Now, being gigantic doesn’t necessarily make one a good MMA fighter. You can see that Mariusz lacks much technical skill. Luckily, his opponent has no skill whatsoever. The other man, Marcin Najman, had never fought professionally before and received only about $17,000 for the ass beating he received. Pudzianowski collected around $70,745 for his part in the mauling. You can check out the video below via The Cage Doctors:

But I started the photoshop of his picture and had to go through with the post. Former New York Knick Tim Thomas was recently enjoying a meal at Denny’s when a customer greeted him. That’s when things took a nasty turn.
Thomas was getting Denny’s at 3AM with his posse when the incident occurred. A customer noticed Thomas and said, “Hey, what’s up?” Members of Thomas’ crew warned the customer not to talk to the rich ass NBA player. That’s when Thomas decided to throw a chair into a crowd of patrons and hit a woman. One of his posse members punched a customer too.
The manager of the Denny’s also said that Thomas and co. had been at the restaurant on Monday night. They were also rowdy then. I guess Tim Thomas likes to get hammered at the club then stuff his face with pancakes. Could there be any other reason for 3AM Denny’s trip with his crew?

Frankly, I’m not so sure anybody cares.
The bad blood became public this week when reports emerged claiming Edwards has punched a friend of LeBron’s. This was later confirmed by by alleged victim and LeBron. In response to the incident, King James released a statement aimed at the former Michigan receiver:
“I’ve never crossed paths with Braylon before, but it seems like there’s a little jealousy going on with Braylon and me and my friends. I have no idea why. I’ve never said anything to Braylon at all. But for him to do that is very childish. My friend is 130 pounds. Seriously. It’s like hitting one of my kids. It doesn’t make sense.”
Basically, it sounds like Braylon was mad that one of LeBron’s underlings was giving him a hard time at the door of a club. Edwards’ name was not included in the police report and there are no charges pending against him. So it looks like Braylon will avoid legal and potential NFL disciplinary repercussions. I just hope this issue is resolved with Braylon getting punched in the head.

Last night, the new Ranger enforcer faced his old team, the Washington Capitals, and showed he didn’t really miss them. Brashear had drawn the ire of Rangers fans when he hurt Blair Betts in last year’s playoffs, but has quickly proven he’s a part of the team. He did this by squaring off with Capitals tough man Brandon Sudgen on two separate occasions. Neither fighter landed any real blows in the first tussle. The second encounter was a little more exciting. Sudgen and Brashear dance a bit and then get tangled up in the beginning. But once Brashear gets rid of his pesky jersey, he’s able to deal some damage to Sudgen. I’m still not a huge Brashear fan, but he’s doing a good job to win me over. Both videos are after the jump. Kevin Youkilis is not a handsome man. He showed more nastiness than usual by taking exception to a Rick Porcello pitch and charging the mound. Youk made an angry ogre face and tried to drop Porcello but ended up on the bottom of the pile.

Boys will be… Cowboys. Two Cowboys players came to blows in practice this week after a big hit. Jay Ratliff ended up getting in a scuffle with offensive lineman Marc Colombo. You can see the video on Shutdown Corner.

The two went at each other Tuesday afternoon after Bobby Carpenter intercepted a pass and Ratliff drilled Colombo into the turf on the return. Colombo took exception and came up swinging.
