NUTS & BOLTS: OBAMA SERVES UP SMACK TO MAGIC

The LA Lakers, 2009 NBA Champs, met with President Obama at the White House yesterday and the Chicago native couldn’t help but talk a little trash to Magic Johnson. Obama imitated the famous up-and-under move Michael Jordan pulled off against the Lakers, and added “They [the Lakers] won the first game and they were feeling cocky,” to cheers and laughter from Johnson and the crowd. The 2010 Lubbock phone book arrived to residents today, and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach graces the cover in Texas Tech gear. Clearly, this phone book is already outdated. (SportsbyBrooks)

Brett Favre claims that its “highly unlikely” that he will return for another NFL season in 2010. Clearly there is reason to believe that he has not made this decision official, and I don’t expect to really know until late August. WOULD A CHRIS BOSH TRADE NIX LEBRON TO KNICKS?

We’re about five weeks away from the NBA trade deadline. With the February 18th date approaching, Chris Bosh is apparently generating a lot of interest. ESPN’s Chad Ford reports that interest in Bosh from the Lakers and Rockets could have a big impact on the LeBron Sweepstakes as well.

Sources from both the Knicks and Nets have told Ford that they don’t expect to land any major free agents unless they can pair that player with another big-time signing. He also notes that the Nets were already starting to question the prospect of a big move:

Even before the rumors surfaced this weekend, the Nets were having second thoughts about their 2010 summer strategy. A source close to the Nets’ thinking told me that they are concerned that if they don’t land LeBron or Bosh, they may be stuck in the same situation the Pistons were in last summer — with no elite free agents on the market, the Pistons were forced to overpay role players to fill out their roster.

The Knicks may also be re-thinking their strategy for 2010. The same factors may force Donnie Walsh’s hand to make a move soon or to wait until the dust settles in the 2010 free agency period. Nets team president Rod Thorn said that he expects “major deals” before the deadline. On the Lebron front, the latest rumor is that Pat Riley may go “all in” on LBJ.

RON ARTEST SAID HE COULD COME TO NYC… TO COACH

Ron Artest is known for doing and saying crazy things but he made a lot of sense when talking about the Knicks. The Lakers’ small forward recently talked about players’ potential fear of coming to the Big Apple. Artest said that most players are afraid of pressure and the media.

Ron Ron said that he wouldn’t feel any pressure in New York. He also believes that LeBron can succeed in NYC. Artest went on to say “f*ck the media” and that he was “always trying” to get to New York. Unfortunately, that won’t happen now. At least as a player. Here’s what Artest had to say about an eventual return to New York:

“Everybody knows how I feel about New York now. I was always trying to get there…I love New York. Maybe when my career is over I can go there and probably do something with the organization or something. I don’t know. Maybe coach or something.”

So yeah, TruWarier may actually come back to the City. Unfortunately, he thinks it could be as a coach instead of a player. Hey, it can’t be worse than Isiah.

Kobe Bryant has had more than his fair share of ridiculous shot attempts in his career. But he trumped himself last night when the Lakers took on the Thunder.

In the first quarter, Kobe was forced towards the baseline before he threw up a prayer from behind the backboard. Amazingly, it actually went in. The video speaks for itself.

MARIA SHARAPOVA IS SLUMMING WITH SASHA VUJACIC

Maria Sharapova has a new boyfriend according to SPORTSbyBROOKS. He happens to be one of my least favorite people: Sasha Vujacic.

The man known as The Machine was recently seen cozying up to Sharapova at a U2 concert. Sharapova keeps her personal life pretty private. The last person she was rumored to be dating was Charlie Ebersol, son of NBC’s Dick Ebersol. I also feel like I remember hearing rumors that she was dating Freddy Adu a few years ago. Both Adu and Sharapova trained at IMG facilities in Bradenton, Florida. I don’t have any links to back that up though.

I have my doubts as to whether their relationships can last. Sasha Vujacic is a huge douchebag. And Maria is going to be crushed to learn that he’s probably still in a relationship with Kobe Bryant. Or did they break up?

RON ARTEST CONSIDERED PLAYING IN GREECE

As you may know, Ron Artest in an international playboy. He spent quite a bit of time in China this year and even met Shin Shin (video below). Yesterday, he talked to Dan Patrick about his love for Greece.

The Lakers’ small forward said he nearly signed with the Cavs but he and his agent decided to wait it out. They didn’t have anybody call them until the Lakers inquired about Artest’s interest in signing. Tru Warier also said that playing in Greece was an option as well:

“The only other option I had was Greece. I really wanted to go to Greece but when the Lakers called, I kind of forgot about Greece. That was like one of my first options. I really wanted to go to Greece and my other option of course was Houston. But I’m not really sure what happened with Houston. Because I went to Greece like seven years ago, I got a couple friends out there and I knew I’d like the culture and kind of grew attached to Greece and always wanted to play there.”

It’s hard to imagine Ron Artest in Greece but it would probably be awesome. Though playing in Europe may have hampered his burgeoning rap career.

Lamar Odom was out on the town on Monday with his new wife. The Lakers forward attended the opening of a new restaurant in West Hollywood.

Self-proclaimed handsome guy Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian posed on the red carpet for the grand opening of Philippe Restaurant.

Khloe didn’t look as much like Shrek as she usually does. But I still wouldn’t want that beast on my arm. It’s going to be close whether or not this sham marriage can hold water until their nuptials air on Kardashian’s E! reality show in November.

LAMAR ODOM FINALLY ADMITS HE’S “GOOD LOOKING”

Lamar Odom opened up about his marriage to Khloe Kardashian with ESPN 710 on Tuesday. Hilariously, he addressed the topic by talking about himself. Here’s the quote:

“[Laughing] It just so happens I’m good looking and I have a personality which I don’t mind sharing. And along with success comes this other side. And I’m blessed, first of all to be with an organization like this, where you can show that other side, in a town like L.A., where people love personality.

Yes, Lamar, you’re good looking. Right. I’d be a lot more handsome with an 8 figure pro sports contract too. Later in the interview, he affirmed the legitimacy of the wedding saying, “It’s all 100% real. It’s true. It’s Lamar.” Coincidentally, I also use the term “It’s Lamar.” However, I use it to describe hanging out with girls that resemble Shrek.

LAMAR ODOM’S LAME L.A. BACHELOR PARTY

You may or may not have heard that Lamar Odom is engaged to Khloe Kardashian. She resembles Shrek so it’s not really something that I care to post about. However, TMZ reported that Lamar Odom’s Bachelor Party is in tomorrow at Les Deux. Before you book your plane ticket, note that the event is hosted by Joe Francis and Rob Kardashian. I didn’t see that one coming either. I’m guessing that this is a way to earn little Rob some easy cash. I’m not really sure why Francis is involved. I would assume it’s just the association and possible face time rather than monetary incentive. My guess is that Les Deux is paying them a five figure sum (my gut tells me $25,000) to host the event. I doubt Lamar Odom even shows up to “his” bachelor party. He’d probably rather take bong hits. The invite image is below via TMZ:

SASHA SACKED BY SLOVENIA

Kobe Bryant’s number one fan AKA Sasha Vujacic experienced a bit of disappointment this week. He was cut by the Slovenian National Team right before the European Championships. Apparently, he had a sore knee. I think he’s just a wanker though.

Let’s see. You play for the defending NBA champions. You have two more years existing on a three-year deal the Lakers gave you because they thought you were worth it.

You averaged 5.8 points and 1.4 assists off the bench. Sure it was down from a year ago, but still you contributed to the Lakers’ championship run.

But you’re not good enough to play for the Slovenian National Team?

That’s the predictament Sasha Vujacic is in today after being cut from the Slovenian National Team, days before the European Champinships are set to begin. sasha1

Maybe he sore knee was hindering his play. After all Vujacic did miss some exhibitions because of the knee injury.

But Pau Gasol got hurt and Spain didn’t cut him. Tony Parker also injured himself and France still has him on the roster.

Maybe Slovenia is deep enough without Vujacic. Maybe Vujacic didn’t fit into their scheme. Maybe Vujacic wasn’t good enough.

Nah. Well…

RON ARTEST HINTS AT UPCOMING REALITY SHOW

We’ve seen him re-enact the Malice at the Palace on YouTube. We’ve heard his Michael Jackson tribute and there’s also video of him rapping in China. Is reality TV next for Ron Artest? In a recent radio interview, Artest said that he has the “biggest sports story of the whole year” in the works and that it will be “the ultimate turnaround of Ron Artest.” Hopefully, the show involves rapping, bleacher-hurdling, or China. Perhaps he’ll go to the part of China with super-tall freaks and teach them how to ball. A better guess is that it has something to do with Ron Ron’s old stomping grounds of Queensbridge. In any case, it’s 100% guaranteed to be more entertaining than The T.O. Show.

Ron Artest has been touring China lately. You may have seen our post with him rapping at a Chinese club. Apparently, he’s been vlogging on the road as well. We came across this video of him re-enacting the Malice at the Palace. We’ve got a couple more pictures of him in China and the video after the jump. I love that he’s walking around China in a weighted vest.
