NUTS & BOLTS: HOW NICK SWISHER MET YOUR MOTHER

Yankee outfielder/Red Bull addict Nick Swisher will make an appearance on the CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother” on Monday night. He will reportedly play the role of himself, standing in the way of yet another Barney Stinson female conquest. (ESPN)

Former Shea Stadium organist, Jane Jarvis, passed away at the age of 94. (Seattle Times)

Former Mets reliever Lance Broadway did some SERIOUS damage to some guy’s face on his way to being arrested/sued for brutally (and I mean brutal) assaulting a Texas man. (SportsbyBrooks)

CBS is generating a lot of news over what kind of ads they will and will not approve for Super Bowl Sunday. You can add Tim Tebow’s “anti-abortion” ad to the “approved” list, and an ad for gay dating to the “not approved” list. So for those of you keeping score at home, CBS is FOR abortion, and AGAINST gays. (Shutdown Corner)

The basis of Tebow’s ad has to do with the fact that his mother claims she was given the option of abortion due to an illness at the time of her pregnancy. However, abortion was punishable by a 6 year prison sentence in the ultra-religious Philippines (where she was residing at the time), so its highly unlikely a Tim Tebow abortion was ever even a remote possibility. (Huffington Post)

Rex Ryan is in hot water for telling ‘Fins fans that the Jets are #1. Don’t see what the big deal is here really. (SportsbyBrooks)

Pro Bowl CB, Darrelle Revis on Randy Moss: “Sometimes he takes plays off. Sometimes he don’t. That’s his game now.” Revis already made news by calling Moss a slouch a few weeks back. One thing is certain, the Jets are going to have some intense divisional match-ups next year. (ESPN)

Panthers star Julius Peppers will cost Carolina a cool $21million to place the franchise tag on him again. In other words, look for Peppers to be playing elsewhere next season. (Boston Herald)

The Toronto Maple Leafs have scored young stud defenseman Dion Phaneuf in a seven player deal with Calgary. (NHL)

In her final race before the Olympic games, Lindsey Vonn wins in super-G race. (Washington Post)

BOMBERS BEAT BOSOX, CRUISE TO BOOZE BASH

58503189

Even in May, we still knew that the Yankees could win the AL East.  Around that time, Chien Ming Wang was imploding, Mark Teixeira was ice cold, and ARod was just coming back.  What a difference a few weeks can make.  For at least a month, the Yankees have been the undisputed “team to beat” in the media.  Going head-to-head with the Sox, Boston had a chance to clinch a playoff spot while the Yankees could secure the AL East.

NICK SWISHER IS RED HOT… SO IS HIS GIRLFRIEND

58279859

Nick Swisher is scorching hot in September. He currently has 5 homers and 9 RBI and a .306 average. Swish-a-licious is arguably playing his best baseball since the beginning of August. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that’s around the time he was started with his gal pal Joanna Garcia. More recently, the Post reported that Swisher and Garcia were spotted at Hi-Life Restaurant & Lounge. Swish’s girl is currently in the middle of a four episode stint on Gossip Girl. So pretty much everything is going well for those two right now.

YANKS’ VICTORY, PIE: SWISH-A-LICIOUS

Nick Swisher and the New York Yankees won their 13th walk-off game of 2009 on Tuesday night. Of course, with the walk-off win, there is walk-off pie. And when there is walk-off pie, BigLeagueScrew is on it like white on rice. The proud recipient of AJ Burnett’s pie job this day was Nick Swisher. The zany first year Yankee has made an indelible impression on teammates and fans thus far, and I know I’ve been waiting all year for Swish to get his pie. The winning shot was Swisher’s 2nd Home Run of the game, and 26th overall on the year. I also wanted to take this opportunity to point out how incredible Nick Swisher has hit on the road this season. Check out his splits below (tonight’s stats not included).

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
Home 62 180 25 37 10 0 3 20 50 50 0 0 .206 .381 .311 .692
Away 68 250 47 71 19 1 21 55 36 62 0 0 .284 .370 .620 .990

Swish magically turns into Babe Ruth when he puts on the road grays. Its a tad surprising when you consider all the commotion regarding NYS as a hitters haven, but hey, someone’s gotta hit on the road. Swish, congrats on almost tying your season total of HRs at home in one game. Check out our great shots of the pieing after the jump.

"How does it taste, motherf*cker?"

NICK SWISHER PIGS OUT WITH CHARLIE HAYES

Thank you, Page Six, for bringing this ridiculous scenario to our attention. Most Yankee fans know that Nick Swisher is a little… off. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Swish just has his fair share of idiosyncrasies that we’ve all learned to love. We’ve also been introduced to NSwish’s consumption habits. He loves to chug Red Bull and rock chewing tobacco in his lip at all times. So we weren’t too surprised to hear about the latest Nick Swisher sighting. According to the New York Post, Swisher was at Justin Timberlake’s restaurant Southern Hospitality taking on Charlie Hayes in a rib-eating contest. Southern Hospitality seems to host events with baseball players often as Hayes hosted a party there with Darryl Strawberry in April. I’m not sure who won… but I’d bet on Swish.

YANKEE Nick Swisher and former Bronx Bomber Charlie Hayes in a competitive rib-eat ing contest at Southern Hospi tality . . . DWIGHT Gooden being swarmed by Mets fans at Tao and signing baseballs for chef John Villa . . . LeBRON James taking pictures with fans poolside at the Peninsula in Beverly Hills.
