POLITICIANS MAKE MEANINGLESS WORLD SERIES BETS

USA-CATHOLICS/

It’s that time of year: World Series time! That means city and state officials have made meaningless wagers on the championship series. So you know that Mike Bloomberg, who is seeking re-election next week, and David Paterson had to get in on that action.

These weren’t your run of the mill political wagers. This year, nobody put the typical “basket of apples” (or some other random locally-themed item) on the line. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter made “a first-of-its kind wager” that involved community service. If the Yankees win, Nutter will have to help re-paint a school. Conversely, Bloomberg will have to assist in the painting of a mural in Philadelphia if the Yankees lose. It’s an interesting bet but I have to believe that Bloomberg’s re-election played into the unique terms of the bet. It would also be more entertaining if they did something a bit more demeaning such as picking up trash or cleaning toilets.

The New York and Pennsylvania governors also made a bet. Their bet isn’t a run-of-the-mill wager either. In the bet between New York Governor David Paterson and Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell, the losing state will host a contest winner for a vacation. A New York winner would stay at the Park Hyatt in Bellvue, PA while a Pennsylvia winner would stay at the Sheraton New York in midtown Manhattan. You can enter the contest at http://www.iloveny.com.

VIDEO: PAVEMENT TEACHES PHILLIES FAN A LESSON

phillies_fan_falling_off_cab

From the fans that brought you “guy getting hit by Grey Goose bottle and falling off of a traffic light”… comes “guy jumps on cab until it starts driving away and smacks the pavement.”

At this point, there’s no denying that Philadelphia sports fans are a consistent source of idiocy. But we can’t be as harsh this time around.  As long as they stick to making fools of themselves on YouTube rather than beatings and stabbings, we’re cool with that.  These dudes tried to show just how much they loved the Phillies by treating a red taxi cab like a trampoline. At first, it was triumphant but then it ended in shame.

It’s also most sad that only one out of three guys jumping on the cab went down. That’s what happens when you mug for the camera. Sorry, White Pants Red Shirt.

PHOOLIGANS: PHILLY FANS PROVE THEY ARE THE WORST

Where to start? I guess we could mention that Philadelphia fans tried to run Donovan McNabb, Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, out of town. Before that, they threw D cell batteries at JD Drew and one fat Philly fan even tried to fight NHL enforcer Tie Domi while he sat in the penalty box. The list of disgraceful actions by the Philadelphia fanbase was extremely long even before this weekend.

These fools have managed to add two more pathetic incidents to their resume. Yesterday, a man was beaten to death outside of Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia. The same day, a jackass Phillies fan decided to shine a laser pointer onto the faces of batters Julio Lugo and Albert Pujols of the Cardinals. The frequency, severity, and lack of maturity and self-control displayed by these individuals is frightening. These are the same fans that took to the streets and started fighting each other after a World Series win. This extreme level of stupidity has earned them a new name in my book: Phooligans. You can see more details about the two incidents and videos of the “laser pointing” after the jump.
