PLAX PAYS FOR PRISON PREP

It’s probably a smart that Plaxico Burress hired a consultant to help him adapt to prison life. One report noted that many rich people hire these types before heading to the slammer. But I have a smarter idea for Plax: hire a bodyguard/security person/posse member to hold your illegal gun and take the charge BEFORE any legal implosions. Though, it would’ve been smartest to avoid shooting himself in the first place.

Burress Weapons Charges

NEW YORK — Plaxico Burress’ lawyer says a prison consultant is preparing the former New York Giants star for life behind bars.

Benjamin Brafman tells the New York Post in a story published Saturday that the wide receiver is getting advice on “how to use his period of confinement as productively as possible.”

The 32-year-old Burress pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He had accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub in November.

His plea deal calls for a two-year prison term. Burress is to be sentenced Sept. 22.

Consultants are popular among celebrities and other high-profile people facing incarceration.

Burress caught the touchdown pass that clinched the Giants’ victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

PLAX CAN’T CATCH BREAK, FACES PRISON

Plaxico Burress is going to jail. The New York Posts reports that he will be headed to the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York no matter how the case turns out. Plax turned down the DA’s offer of a lesser charge that would have resulted in two years behind bars. According to the Post, Burress wouldn’t agree to more than a year of jail time. At the same time, Antonio Pierce may be in danger of getting put away as well. The DA may seek to charge him for possessing Plax’s gun when they stashed it in his Escalade. The situation teaches an important lesson: don’t bring your gun to the club if you’re wearing sweatpants.

“We’ve always taken the position that he’s going to have to go to jail, whether by trial or by plea,” the legendary DA — who retires at year end after 34 years in office — said, breaking his public silence about the case.

Morgenthau said his office would announce the grand jury’s vote within four weeks.

The Post has also learned Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is still on the hook for allegedly possessing his then-teammate’s gun after the shooting — and could face a jail term of his own.

Burress and Pierce were side by side in the VIP vestibule at the Midtown club Latin Quarter last November when the star receiver accidentally shot himself clear through the thigh with his own gun — a .40-caliber Glock for which the player had an expired Florida permit.

According to law-enforcement sources, as Pierce tended to his trembling, bleeding teammate, a security worker at the club placed the blood-splattered gun in the glove compartment of Pierce’s Cadillac Escalade.

Prosecutors have considered flipping the unidentified Latin Quarter security worker in hopes of nailing Pierce for allegedly bringing the Glock to Burress’ Totowa, NJ, home after first driving Burress to New York-Cornell Hospital, sources said.
