NUTS & BOLTS: REX RYAN’S GUT & MARISA MILLER’S BUTT

Rex Ryan shirtless

Jets coach Rex  Ryan attended last night’s Penguins vs. Hurricanes game in Carolina. He showed up wearing a Flyers jersey, and during the game the Hurricanes ice girls brought him a new jersey to change into. Unfortunately for any women or children in attendence, the uninhibited Ryan changed right then and there. (TheBigLead)

Quick. When is the last time you were jealous of Tom Arnold? Well, for most people the answer is probably “never”. Until now, that is. During the DirecTV celebrity flag football Arnold managed to pull down Marisa Miller’s pants while attempting a tackle. Tom Arnold has not done something this notable since True Lies. Oh yeah…there’s a picture too. (SportsbyBrooks)

NFL Network’s Mike Maycock thinks Tim Tebow would be a good value in the 3rd round of the draft for a team that can spend a couple years refining his game. (Sacramento Bee)

Donte’ Stallworth is said to be working out with the Detroit Lions. Huh? I thought his punishment was over. (PFT)

If you’re an NFL team looking for a QB through free agency, let me just say, “good luck”. FanHouse’s top 5 includes Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton and Tarvaris Jackson. (FanHouse)

It has been revealed that Erin Andrew’s video stalker had also targeted other female sports reporters and television personalities. Man, is this guy particular or what? (TheSmokingGun)

Kobe Bryant must really feel like he’s invincible. After dodging a major sex scandal a few years ago, Kobe now is the poster boy for an All-Star weekend party featuring scantily clad women. (TMZ)

FanHouse has MLB’s top fantasy starting pitchers going into the pre-season. Tim Lincecum is #1. (FanHouse)

Tiger Woods’ mistress, Rachel Uchitel has parlayed her affair with Tiger into a “special correspondent” role with Extra. Hollywood really is ridiculous. (NY Post)

NUTS & BOLTS: HOW NICK SWISHER MET YOUR MOTHER

Yankee outfielder/Red Bull addict Nick Swisher will make an appearance on the CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother” on Monday night. He will reportedly play the role of himself, standing in the way of yet another Barney Stinson female conquest. (ESPN)

Former Shea Stadium organist, Jane Jarvis, passed away at the age of 94. (Seattle Times)

Former Mets reliever Lance Broadway did some SERIOUS damage to some guy’s face on his way to being arrested/sued for brutally (and I mean brutal) assaulting a Texas man. (SportsbyBrooks)

CBS is generating a lot of news over what kind of ads they will and will not approve for Super Bowl Sunday. You can add Tim Tebow’s “anti-abortion” ad to the “approved” list, and an ad for gay dating to the “not approved” list. So for those of you keeping score at home, CBS is FOR abortion, and AGAINST gays. (Shutdown Corner)

The basis of Tebow’s ad has to do with the fact that his mother claims she was given the option of abortion due to an illness at the time of her pregnancy. However, abortion was punishable by a 6 year prison sentence in the ultra-religious Philippines (where she was residing at the time), so its highly unlikely a Tim Tebow abortion was ever even a remote possibility. (Huffington Post)

Rex Ryan is in hot water for telling ‘Fins fans that the Jets are #1. Don’t see what the big deal is here really. (SportsbyBrooks)

Pro Bowl CB, Darrelle Revis on Randy Moss: “Sometimes he takes plays off. Sometimes he don’t. That’s his game now.” Revis already made news by calling Moss a slouch a few weeks back. One thing is certain, the Jets are going to have some intense divisional match-ups next year. (ESPN)

Panthers star Julius Peppers will cost Carolina a cool $21million to place the franchise tag on him again. In other words, look for Peppers to be playing elsewhere next season. (Boston Herald)

The Toronto Maple Leafs have scored young stud defenseman Dion Phaneuf in a seven player deal with Calgary. (NHL)

In her final race before the Olympic games, Lindsey Vonn wins in super-G race. (Washington Post)

ARE THE JETS EYEING CORNERBACK KYLE WILSON?

The Patrick Robinson to the Jets chatter just took another hit. A report from the Senior Bowl notes that New York may have another cornerback on their radar. After cleaning out their secondary, it’s highly likely that the Jets will grab a corner with one of their first two picks. But it might be Boise State’s Kyle Wilson.

Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan interviewed Mike Tannenbaum on Sirius and he has positive words about Boise State’s Wilson. The key words in Tannenbaum’s statements about corner help are clearly “consistency” and “versatility.” Here’s what the Jets GM had to say:

“Being around Rex for a year, you know you think he wants — obviously he’s a blitzer by nature — big, tough, physical guys. But he loves the defensive backs and he loves to be versatile back there (in the secondary).”

Wilson has been getting positive reviews at Senior Bowl practices so far. And he very well could be a good fit for the Jets. Rotoworld’s first mock draft actually has the Jets taking Wilson with their first pick. Here’s what Evan Silva said about Wilson:

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock didn’t stop raving about Wilson at Monday’s Senior Bowl practice, and it’s easy to see why. Versed in press, off, and zone coverage, Wilson was a four-year starter for the Broncos who intercepted eight passes in his final two seasons, returning two for TDs as a senior. Wilson didn’t miss a game in college, plays bigger than his size (5′10/190) indicates, and offers punt return value. In an overhaul of their secondary, the Jets plan to cut CBs Lito Sheppard and Donald Strickland this offseason, and trade FS Kerry Rhodes. They’ll need reinforcements.

However, I wouldn’t be so quick to peg Wilson as the Jets’ first pick. Unless they’re in love with him, it could be a reach grabbing him at the end of the first round. Especially when Patrick Robinson and Perrish Cox could still be on the board making it even less of a value to pick him in that spot.

The Jets seem to have a good dilemma on their hands though. The first and second round cornerback and wide receiver prospects are quite solid this year. Their corner options in the first round are probably Wilson, Cox, and Robinson which would let them potentially pick Damian Williams (if he falls past late first, early second), Dezmon Briscoe, or another quality receiver. If they go with a receiver like Golden Tate, Arrelious Benn, or Demaryius Thomas (though he could slip to the second) in the first round, they may go after one of the Alabama cornerbacks (Kareem Jackson and Javier Arenas) in the next round. Arenas, a versatile return man, and Jackson probably project as second round picks.

NUTS & BOLTS: INTRODUCING, THE REX RYAN DIET

Looking content with a win over Buffalo, Rex is presumably on his way to celebrate by eating 50 wings

If you’re looking to get in shape for “beach season” this diet probably isn’t for you. However, if “beached-whale season” is something you’re interested in, then this is definitely up your alley. According the the NY Post, Jets coach Rex Ryan consumes about 7,000 calories a day. That number is absolutely staggering, and to give you a little perspective as to just how much food that is, Shutdown Corner has broken down how one could reach 7,000 calories at McDonald’s. You will be shocked. (Shutdown Corner)

The Jets have scheduled a playoff rally for their fans today in Times Square. The rally kicks off at 5:30 and features appearances by Mike Bloomberg, Mike Tannenbaum and Curtis Martin. I’ll be there. Who’s coming with me? (NY Jets)

NUTS & BOLTS: CANSECO SEZ BIG MAC’S A BIG LIAR

And here we are, all these years later.

Jose Canseco still thinks his former Bash Brother Mark McGwire is lying about his steroid admission and is willing to have a televised “polygraph-off”. (Boston Herald)

Hey speaking of cheating liars, Barry Bonds is back in the news. His 20 year old son has been charged with battery for throwing a door knob at his mother, Sun. I guess Barry Bonds had a point when he told the media a few years back, “look what you’ve done to my son.” That being said, the guess here is that Barry puts this one on the media. (Washington Post)

The Knicks’ Jared Jeffries and Eddy Curry believe that their Oklahoma City hotel was haunted. Curry said he only slept 2 hours because of the constant disturbances, and this could be a reason why the Knicks played so poorly against the Thunder. (NY Daily News)

SANCHEZ SOLID IN JETS’ FIRST NOVEMBER WIN

59031629

The Jets’ season was headed in the wrong direction after a red hot September. In the previous eight weeks, the team had only managed one win (against the Raiders) in the last seven games. Cliche aside, the Jets had a must-win game on Sunday with the Panthers in town.

A less educated fan might believe that the matchup with the Panthers was an easy one. However, Carolina came into the game having gone 4-3 in their past seven. That included a game in which they were beating the Saints by 11 at halftime before being outscored 24-3 in the second half. The Panthers rely on lockdown pass defense to go with their strong rushing attack. Like the Jets, Carolina ranks in the top five in both pass defense and rushing.

Facing their doppleganger, the Jets managed to come out on top. Mark Sanchez limited his mistakes and managed the game admirably. He outdueled Jake Delhomme, who threw four picks including two to Darrelle Revis. On one of his picks, Revis snatched a lucky bounce off of Steve Smith’s foot and took it the distance for a score (video below).

Thomas Jones had a workman-like effort with 25 carries for 75 yards and added three catches for 11 yards. Dustin Keller was the Jets’ leading receiver with four catches for 68 yards. Even though he was benched, Kerry Rhodes chipped in with two interceptions. The safety was used mostly in dime packages.

In an effort to avoid rookie mistakes, Rex Ryan instituted a color-coded system to let Sanchez know when he should be conservative or aggressive. The plan seemed to work out since the rookie only had four incompletions and one interception. Unsurprisingly, New York reverted to a more basic passing attack and Sanchez targeted wide receivers only six times in the game.

Before their trouncing of the Raiders, the Jets had indicated that they’d limit the playbook for Sanchez. It’s worth noting that the Jets are 3-2 when Sanchez attempts under 25 passes and 2-4 when he has over 25 attempts. Additionally, Sanchez had a 76.5 completion percentage which is the best of his career. It was his second game where he completed more than 60% of his passes. Sanchez also surpassed the 60% completion mark when he beat the Patriots earlier in the season. Both Carolina and New England are ranked in the top 5 in pass defense. Clearly, the Jets need to stick to the simple stuff with Sanchez.

NUTS & BOLTS: ‘HOLLYWOOD’ RHODES JETS TO BENCH

Jets Safety Kerry Rhodes (2nd from Left) is being benched by Rex Ryan

Jets Safety Kerry Rhodes (2nd from Left) is being benched by Rex Ryan

Some Jets fans have been on Kerry Rhodes for his “Hollywood” attitude since before the start of this season. I’ll admit that I’m late to the party, but I’m all for Rex Ryan’s decision to bench the $33million safety with no interceptions, sacks, or fumble recoveries this season. Ryan is probably just sending a message here, but hopefully Rhodes receives it loud and clear.  (NY Daily News)

Pretty hilarious post. Brady Quinn’s new squeeze is all over someone else…’s baby. Quinn probably doesn’t have to worry about the baby taking his gal, but he should be concerned that the baby has a stronger arm than him. (SportsbyBrooks)

DAVID CLOWNEY’S GETS CLOWNED ON TWITTER

Jets Dolphins Football

It’s no secret David Clowney likes to tweet. His penchant for micro-blogging has already gotten him into trouble once. Clowney tweeted to a friend that he was “disappointed” after a game where he didn’t play much and Rex Ryan benched him.

Well, it’s another day with another controversy. Yesterday, a number of absurd and offensive tweets were posted on Clowney’s page. Apparently, it’s the result of his account being hacked. You can see the ridiculous comments posted here (Google cached) or here. The wide receiver recently posted an apology in his account (below).

david_clowney_twitter_apology

Hopefully, Clowney won’t be reprimanded for the “rogue tweets.” The Jets Blog has an excellent recap of the situation. From the looks of it, there are still many questions to be answered.
