Karina Smirnoff is thrown herself into the “famous women boned by Brad Penny” category. Smirnoff is the Cardinals pitcher’s newest squeeze and they recently vacationed with each other. Luckily, the paparazzi were on hand to get some shots of Smirnoff in a bikini.

Not only can we hate Brad Penny because of who he’s slammed, but also because he wears Affliction shirts. The hefty pitcher showed off his lack of fashion sense while walking along the beach with his gal pal. More importantly, Ms. Smirnoff looked quite fit in her gold bikini. Gotta say though… these pictures look extremely “set up.”

CHRIS CARPENTER CRUSHES CRAPPY CINCY

Chris Carpenter wanted to prove in his last start that he was the best pitcher in the NL. But he may have generated more buzz with his bat. Carpenter was a regular Babe Ruth on Thursday when he single-handedly beat lowly Cincinnati.

Carp came into his last start with a career .105 average and 6 career RBI in 287 at bats. Last night, he added some major stats to that line by mashing the Reds. The Cardinals starter managed to belt a homer and drive in six runs in only three ABs.

The six RBI are the highest on record for a Cardinals pitcher since they started keeping the stat. Carpenter edged Bob Gibson’s five RBI effort in 1973 to set the mark.

Apparently, Carpenter had promised teammates that he’d hit a homer earlier in the week. He certainly made good on that promise. Oh yeah, he also won his 17th game and didn’t allow a run. Carpenter finishes with a 2.24 ERA which is the best in the National League.

RYAN’S FANNY DUSTER IS DOWNRIGHT DELIGHTFUL

I’m not sure if it’s for solidarity or just to look ridiculous — but a bold mustache seems to fit Brendan Ryan. Word is that he’s been growing the mustache since late July. The Cardinals middle infielder also wears high socks and has a huge chain necklace to go with the fancy facial hair. The Associated Press reports that he’s been wearing a shirt that says “Respect the Stache” too.  Basically, he’s one pair of Brett Favre Wrangler Jeans away from being on an episode of Cops. We here at BLS salute Brendan Ryan’s mustache and hope that he continues to grow that badboy.

CASEY MULLIGAN’S THRILLING TRIBUTE TO MJ

In terms of the Internets, this video is old. I think it started making the rounds yesterday or this weekend. So don’t squawk at me if you’ve already seen it. There are people out there who aren’t nerds like you. The video is of Casey Mulligan entertaining the crowd during a rain delay. Mulligan was a third baseman and catcher turned relief pitcher that currently plays for Palm Beach in the Florida State League. In an apparent tribute to Michael Jackson, he does his rendition of Thriller. He’s actually surprisingly awesome. It starts off slow, so make sure you catch his sweet moves later in the video.
