NEVADA SPORTS BOOKS TOOK IN $83 MIL ON SUPER BOWL

The Nevada sports books took in a reported total close to $83 million in wagers on the Super Bowl this year. It was the 14th time in the last 15 years where the sports books cleared a profit. This year they won $6.7 million or about 8.3%.

The state record for Super Bowl wagers is still $94.5 million which happened in 2006. Last year, the “handle” came in at only $81.5 million. Jimmy Vaccaro, director of operations for Lucky’s sports books, said that he had thought the handle would be around $86 million this year.

The sports books lost a bit of money due to last minute moneyline bets on the Saints. But they had big wins on early Colts money and “tie lose” parlays. Many gamblers lost money on “tie lose” parlays such as when Reggie Bush managed to hit the line set for his total receptions which was four.

GALLERY: ANNALYNNE MCCORD’S SUPER BIKINI

AnnaLynne McCord in a bikini at the DirecTV Beach Bowl

Wikipedia says that Ms. McCord is “known for playing a range of vixen-type roles.” Recently she’s been in critically acclaimed movies such as Transporter 2 and Day of the Dead. She’s also in the remake of 90210.

AnnaLynne must be a fan of football — or publicity. She played in the DirecTV Beach Bowl over the weekend. She also attended the Super Bowl party at the Playboy Mansion last year.

You can check out 10 pics of AnnaLynne after the jump.

NUTS & BOLTS: SUPER MONDAY EDITION

Everybody knows by now that the Saints won the Super Bowl, so let’s get to the real stuff…celebrity appearances and commercials!

Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher, his baby-sitter, Demi Moore, LL Cool J, and Scientologists, Tom Cruise and John Travolta were all spotted at the big game. (Union-Tribune)

Phillies slugger Ryan Howard has now attended pro sports’ last 2 championship games. This time, as an extremely large observer. Who’s his friend though? (Bossip)

Kissing Suzy Kolber has the rundown of what you missed in Miami this week. Girls in bikinis, beach football, and of course, a guy with a tramp stamp. (KSK)

Girlfriends and casual observers all around the country were treated to what they know as “hilarious commercial day”. It was a relatively weak showing this year (due to the economy?) but the highlight of the night was when my friend’s sister was literally (and hilariously) moved to tears by Google’s contribution, which received a grade of “B” here. (Fang’s Bites)

The biggest actual football story of the day might be about the brass pair of balls on Saints coach, Sean Payton, who called for an onside kick to start the second half. (Shutdown Corner)

Prior to the game, ESPN wanted to know who fans thought was the best “One ring” QB of all time was. Peyton Manning was on the list. He still is. (ESPN)

Bengals linebacker Rey Mualuga is checking himself into the Betty Ford rehab center in California after a DUI arrest last week. (National Football Post)

SI’s Jon Heyman must be some kind of outlaw. He believes that NYC’s gun control laws should not be enforced as long as a celebrity/star athlete is the one being charged. Stick to baseball, Jonny. (Twitter/Jon Heyman)

So not only is Mike Milbury the “Isiah Thomas” of NHL general managing, but he’s a tough guy around bloggers who call him out for being wrong. This could make for a long feud between Milbury and bloggers, because Mike is going to be wrong quite often. (Gunaxin)

Academic scandal at Florida State has altered the records of a few teams, including Bobby Bowden’s ‘06 – ‘07 football squad. (KC Star)

GALLERY: MARISA MILLER’S MIAMI SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

It’s not easy being Marisa Miller. The leggy beauty was in Miami this weekend. While she got to enjoy the sun, she was also hustling from venue-to-venue all weekend. So we rounded up the photos of the lovely model.

On Friday, Miller hit up the AXE Lounge at Fontainebleau Miami. Her Saturday began with the DirecTV Celebrity Beach Bowl (other participants included Olivia Munn and bad ass actors Aaron Paul and C.S. Lee). Then later that night it was party time. Miller attended both the Maxim Party at The Raleigh and also made an appearance at the NFL owner’s party. I’m sure that both were equally lame.

You can check out 64+ pictures of Miller’s party weekend after the jump.

PHIL IVEY HAS $2 MILLION ON THE COLTS TO WIN

The last time we talked about Phil Ivey and the sportsbooks it was because he’d made the final table in the World Series of Poker. Ivey had 20:1 odds to make the final table, which he did, and made bettors a lot of money. This time around, Ivey is making news for putting a couple million dollars on the Colts.

Matt Youmans reports that Phil Ivey is rumored to have placed a $2 million moneyline bet on the Colts with Billy Walters. Indianapolis currently sits at about -200 to win the game which means Ivey and Walters stand to win about 2/3 of a million dollars on the wager. Apparently Walters is a legendary sports bettor who was a member of The Computer Group.

MGM Mirage sports book director Jay Rood told Youmans, “We took a seven-figure bet on the Colts money line.” It is also reported that a sports gambler from South Florida named Adam Meyer has been approved for a $1 million bet at the M Resort.

NUTS & BOLTS: OSI THREATENS TO WALK

Giants DE Osi Umenyiora told WFAN yesterday that if he has to be a back-up player next year he will quit football. Gotta love that attitude. Needless to say, its very possible that Osi ends up with another team in 2010. (National Football Post)

The average price of a Super Bowl ticket is about $1,000. That is a 900% increase from the first Super Bowl, and triple the amount of just 10 years ago. (Journal-Sentinel)

The party is open to the public, but to make things more interesting you should just sneak in by using our handy guide. (SportsbyBrooks)

The St. Louis Rams are apparently the “favorite” to land Michael Vick in a deal this offseason. (RotoWorld)

Chad Pennington would like to remain with the Dolphins next season despite having a 3rd shoulder surgery in the past 6 years. Could he win Comeback Player of the Year award for the third time? (Miami Herald)

John Legend’s hot girlfriend, Christine Teigen is set to appear in SI’s Swimsuit Edition. (Huffington Post)

The Yankees toured their World Series trophy around Asia last week. Next stop? Westchester. The trophy will be on display this Saturday from 11-2 at the Westchester County Center. (LoHud)

25 year-old, 2 time Cy Young award winner,Tim Lincecum is set to break the arbitration record this year. However, due to concerns over the A’s moving to San Jose, the Giants may try to keep that amount to a minimum. (Baseball Musings)

Tiger Woods will leave by the end of this week and head for a private vacation with his wife, Elin. Could there be a reconciliation in the works? Now that the media frenzy has subsided, does anyone truly care? (SportsbyBrooks)

David Lee may not have been selected to his first All-Star team, but he has been invited by Team USA chairman Jerry Colangelo to train with the team in July. (NYDN)

US Olympic hockey player/Toronto Maple Leaf, Mike Komisarek will miss the Olympics and the rest of the NHL season due to shoulder surgery. (Seattle Times)

Former LA Galaxy soccer player, DaMarcus Beasley’s $80,000 BMW was fire bombed and destroyed in Glasgow. (LA Times)

GALLERY: PAM ANDERSON PLAYS ON THE RED CARPET

Pam Anderson hasn’t been up to a whole lot lately. She’s mostly been in the news for having a peasant boyfriend and making the occasional appearance at a fashion show. Apparently, somebody thought it might be a good idea for her to host a party in Miami this week. It wasn’t.

She actually didn’t look that bad on the red carpet. But that wasn’t enough to draw a crowd to the event. There may have been less than 50 people in attendance when the “star” arrived at Club Play last night. You can check out 30+ pics of Pam after the jump.

Below are some selected comments from the original article theorizing why Ms. Anderson’s event was so poorly attended:

Comment by john — February 3, 2010 @ 9:18 am

no came to the party because she is past her prime.she is old news and really nothing to offer.sad to say she not even worth the 25 dollars to go see.

Comment by Ed — February 3, 2010 @ 9:21 am

Is she even relevant enough anymore to garner a blip on the screen?? maybe nobody wanted to contract Hep C at that party and went elsewhere.

Comment by Tony F — February 3, 2010 @ 10:44 am

Pam is a wonderful person (fake or not), but I did not go because Club Play is coming to be known as a non-whites club…

I will not go there anymore after a group of ‘playas’ pushed up on my girl… it scared her, so we left.

KEEP YOUR KIDS AWAY FROM PETE TOWNSHEND

Pete Townshend sex offender advisory

Advocacy groups are somewhat hilarious. As you may know, one group wants to air an anti-abortion ad with Tim Tebow during the Super Bowl. A much smaller group called “Protect Our Children” is out to stop Pete Townshend from performing during the the Super Bowl’s halftime show.  Can’t you tell how much he loves child porn just by looking at that picture?

Protect Our Children will send the “sex offender alert” above to homes and schools near Sun Life Stadium (aka Dolphins Stadium). 1500 homes will receive the notice by the time the game rolls around next week. The flyer actually looks somewhat official and hilarious lists his known associations as the NFL and Bridgestone Tire Company. Previously, they had also nicknamed the halftime show the “Pedopalooza.”

The group also tried to claim that Townshend was an illegal immigrant saying he failed to meet the “moral turpitude” standard set forth by the I.N.S. Protect Our Children’s other activities include an internet sting team they call “The Stingers” that attempts to catch online predators.

It’s worth noting that Townshend was caught in a child pornography investigation in 2003. He wasn’t convicted of a crime but was registered in the British sex offender database for five years. His Wikipedia entry says that he had previously written essays against child pornography and Townshend says that the incident occurred when he was doing research for a book.

HOW TO CRASH A SUPER BOWL PARTY

The Super Bowl is back in Miami and that means there will be a lot of partying going down over the next two weekends. Most regular people are limited to small gatherings in their homes or at bars. But if you’re rich, famous, cool, or beautiful there’s an entire hidden world of lavish revelry. I’ve gotten the chance to see this as an employee for Playboy when I worked the last three Super Saturday Night parties in Detroit, Miami, and Phoenix.

Handling tasks ranging from unpacking boxes to working the red carpet VIP entrance, I know what goes into these events. With any big event, a lot more goes wrong than goes right. Random people crashing your party goes into the “bad things” column — but not if you’re the one sneaking in. Using my experience working these events, I’ll give you a few ways that you may be able to talk, deceive, and sneak your way into the biggest Super Bowl parties in Miami.
