On Wednesday, Thierry Henry added another memorable moment to his illustrious career. The French striker may not have many years left in the tank, and he may even join the New York Red Bulls in 2010. However, the Frenchman is still a quality player for his national team. Without him, they may not have advanced to the World Cup Finals.
Henry helped get the French team to South Africa on what appeared to be a hand ball in the box. It allowed Henry to bring the ball down and William Gallas ended up scoring a goal. The tally tied the game at 1-1 but meant that France would advance on an aggregate score of 2-1. France had beaten 1-0 in Dublin on Saturday. Henry had no problem admitting the infraction saying:
“I will be honest, it was a hand ball. But I’m not the ref. I played it. The ref allowed it. That’s a question you should ask him.”
Ireland will miss its second straight World Cup. Makes you feel better about USA, doesn’t it?
