ESPN PUMPS TEBOW’S THROWING MOTION FOR 3RD TIME

Tim Tebow's throwing motion

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is known for breaking NFL news. That’s why it wasn’t surprising when he unleashed the latest Tim Tebow update on the world. Schefter reported that Tebow will “unveil” his new delivery at Florida’s pro day in March. Feel like you’ve heard that before? That’s because ESPN has run two similar pieces by two different authors in the past.

NUTS & BOLTS: REX RYAN’S GUT & MARISA MILLER’S BUTT

Rex Ryan shirtless

Jets coach Rex  Ryan attended last night’s Penguins vs. Hurricanes game in Carolina. He showed up wearing a Flyers jersey, and during the game the Hurricanes ice girls brought him a new jersey to change into. Unfortunately for any women or children in attendence, the uninhibited Ryan changed right then and there. (TheBigLead)

Quick. When is the last time you were jealous of Tom Arnold? Well, for most people the answer is probably “never”. Until now, that is. During the DirecTV celebrity flag football Arnold managed to pull down Marisa Miller’s pants while attempting a tackle. Tom Arnold has not done something this notable since True Lies. Oh yeah…there’s a picture too. (SportsbyBrooks)

NFL Network’s Mike Maycock thinks Tim Tebow would be a good value in the 3rd round of the draft for a team that can spend a couple years refining his game. (Sacramento Bee)

Donte’ Stallworth is said to be working out with the Detroit Lions. Huh? I thought his punishment was over. (PFT)

If you’re an NFL team looking for a QB through free agency, let me just say, “good luck”. FanHouse’s top 5 includes Jason Campbell, Kyle Orton and Tarvaris Jackson. (FanHouse)

It has been revealed that Erin Andrew’s video stalker had also targeted other female sports reporters and television personalities. Man, is this guy particular or what? (TheSmokingGun)

STREP SACKED: TIM TEBOW WENT TO THE HOSPITAL

Tim Tebow throwing at the Senior Bowl

Tim Tebow’s second day at Senior Bowl practice may have gone better than the first. But that might just be because he has an excuse for his poor performance. Word is the Tebow has been battling strep throat and was hospitalized Monday night.

However, Tebow still showed up for the afternoon practice sessions with the South squad. Fans who came to see him were delighted with a display of indecision but apparently he threw the ball “OK” according to the National Football Post. Tebow managed to cut down on the botched snaps and only fumbled one in the session.

His agent, Jimmy Sexton, said that Tebow has been sick for two days. The agent also noted that he’s had a 103 temperature.  Insert distasteful abortion joke here.

TIM TEBOW’S NFL JOB INTERVIEW ISN’T GOING WELL

Tim Tebow Senior Bowl

Tim Tebow is no longer a Florida Gators player and life is not nearly as good. The former Florida QB had his first day of practice at the Senior Bowl and it was far from impressive. Tebow did very little to convince coaches that he was ready to play quarterback while making a number of mistakes.

Unfortunately for Tebow, he was already disappointing people before he even took the field. He only came in at 236 even though he was listed at 245 while at Florida. Then, he actually had to throw footballs.

Lindsay Soto was the main culprit in spreading the anti-Tebow news. The NFL Network reporter noted that he botched his first snap under center and screwed up five or six during the session. Other reports have indicated that Tebow was also inaccurate and threw the ball high a number of times. Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times said that Tebow had “horrible accuracy and mechanics.” ESPN’s Chris Mortensen tweeted that “indeed going to be a challenging process” for Tebow to become an NFL quarterback.

It looks like Tebow’s chances of going in the first half of the first round are pretty much gone. Though, it would also be pretty surprising if he slipped past the second round. It’s possible that a bad team might pass on him with their first pick and then “trade up” for him at the end of the first round. I’m going to throw out a random guess that Tebow will be selected with one of the Patriots’ draft picks — though possibly not by them. The Patriots have three picks in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

NUTS & BOLTS: NYC HAS GANG GREEN FEVER

Mark Sanchez graces the cover of the most recent Sports Illustrated

David Letterman treated his viewers on Monday to the “Top 10 signs the New York Jets are getting cocky”. Number 10: “Offered to give the Colts a 14 point head start”.  Hit the link for the rest. Really funny stuff.  (NY Post)

The Post polled its web readers on their preference for Mark Sanchez’s facial hair. Do fans prefer his clean shaven look from early this season, or his bearded look for these playoffs? I’m guess not too many females participated in this poll, because the beard has surprisingly taken 60% of the votes at the time of this posting. (NY Post)

Former Jet and native New Yorker, Vinny Testaverde (aka the last QB to lead the Jets to the AFC Championship game) claims “They can absolutely beat the Colts, no question.” (NY Daily News)

Tim Tebow’s former girlfriend, Janell Wheeler, might be one the 24 finalists on American Idol. PS – she happens to be pretty hot. (TheBigLead)

Peter Gammons has some potentially devastating news for the Mets. Gammons reports that the Red Sox had a deal in place with Jason Bay during the 2009 season but a disagreement about the diagnosis of Bay’s knee issues prevented the contract from being signed. Don’t fret yet though, Mets fans,  I happen to be a firm believer in the Red Sox/Boston media conspiracy. Every single free agent that has left Boston in the past decade has been endlessly bashed as they walked out the door, and this is just more of the same from a second rate city. (NESN)

Less than 24 hours after leaving the Broncos after just his first year as defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan has accepted the same position with the Miami Dolphins. (Yahoo!)

Straight out of the “Is this real?” department; a legitimate lunatic named Don Lewis is the commissioner of the All-American Basketball Alliance based out of Augusta, Georgia. NUTS & BOLTS: BRETT FAVRE IS AS CORNY AS YOUR DAD

Brett Favre might be as old as your father. He might even be older. A couple things are certain though, the Vikings are heading to the NFC Championship to face the Saints, and Brett’s sense of humor is as corny as your dad’s. After defeating the Cowboys, Favre lead the Vikings in a locker room rendition of “Pants on the Ground”. (FanHouse)

I’ve never been a fan of Jay Leno, but I’ll give the guy credit when he says something funny. After hearing of the Cowboy’s complaints about the Vikings running up the score on them Leno remarked, “I haven’t seen cowboys cry like that since ‘Brokeback Mountain.’” (Dallas News)

COLTS’ PREZ POLIAN SEZ TIM TEBOW WON’T BE NFL QB

Tim Tebow won't play quarterback in the NFL

Tim Tebow has one more game left in his superb college career. He will definitely be considered one of the greats even though he only won one national championship as starter (Chris Leak passed for 2950 yards in 2006). Still, he won the Heisman as a sophomore with a ridiculous 3286 passing yards with 32 touchdowns along with 895 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. But even with all of his accomplishments, he may not have a future as a quarterback in the NFL.

Bill Polian, President of the Indianapolis Colts, recently gave his opinion on Tebow in the NFL. He thinks that Tebow will be an NFL player but he needs to be in a specific system. You know, a system that doesn’t rely on the forward pass. He also thinks Tebow could be a good tight end or short-yardage running back. Here are his comments from a Q&A on colts.com:

You know the rest of the story, so with that sort of caveat, I’ll say this: ‘I think Tim Tebow is a really good football player.’ If you were going to run the Wildcat offense enough to say that you needed a specialized Wildcat quarterback to do it, who could both run the ball and withstand the pounding that you have to take in the National Football League and throw it effectively from the Wildcat, I think Tim Tebow would be a heck of a guy. If you’re going to take your offense and say, ‘We’re going to do what the Miami Dolphins do; we’re going to run this 45, maybe 50 percent, maybe 60 percent of the time,’ then he’s the perfect guy for you. I don’t know where you’d take him in the draft, but he fits perfectly there. I’ve heard other people say he could be a great goal-line and short-yardage running back. I believe that to be the case. I’ve heard people say they think he can be a very good tight end. I believe that would be the case. I don’t know how he catches the ball, but I presume and think he’s a good enough athlete that that would not be a problem. There’s room for Tim Tebow, if you wanted to install the Wildcat as a part of a specific and integral part of your offense. He’d be perfect for you.

Tim Tebow recently spoke about the jump to the NFL and said he hoped to continue playing quarterback. But he also said that he’s willing to play another position. Here’s what Tebow said about playing QB:

“My goal is to play quarterback. I’m going to do whatever it takes and work as hard as I possibly can to be a quarterback. If I’m on a team and they want me to go play another position and that’s what they tell me to do, I will gladly go play another position with my whole heart and do it to the best of my ability. But my goal is to be a quarterback and I’m going to do whatever it takes to try to reach that goal.”

Adam Schefter thinks Tebow will “certainly” be taken in the first round. He won’t slip past the early second round much like Pat White last year. It makes you wonder which NFL team would be willing to risk a first round pick on Tebow as a throwing quarterback — or completely start over with a run-first scheme. A lot of people think he could go to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That could be a good fit. I’ll throw the Raiders out there as a wild card team if Tebow is available at the beginning of the second round. Tebow seems to have earned himself a late-first to early-second round pay day with his time at Florida… unless he can put up a JaMarcus Russell-like performance in the Sugar Bowl.

INCREDIBLY (IN)ACCURATE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PICKS

Texas Preview Football

College football is nearly upon us. To get you ready for the season, I’ve put together my picks along with some recent news and notes. A few teams have made news in the final days of preparation. The biggest news? USC coach Pete Carroll bit the bullet and named Matt Barkley as their starter. In a much less newsworthy position battle, Texas finally chose a running back — even though it’ll be more of a 1A/1B situation.

Now, prepare yourself for some expert analysis. I’m extremely biased and think that Colt McCoy will win the Heisman. Tebow and Bradford have a great chance to win but I doubt they can put up numbers much better than they have in the past. Voters will be hesitant to make either player the second two-time Heisman winner without mind-boggling stats. The fact that both have already won the award almost works against them. I have a penchant for looking extremely stupid, so I’ll pick darkhorse candidates too. The Oklahoma State Cowboys have a disgustingly awesome combo of Zac Robinson-Kendall Hunter-Dez Bryant. At first glance, I’d say that Dez Bryant has the best opportunity to win because he puts up ridiculous numbers (19 TDs last year). But for some reason, I have a gut feeling that Kendall Hunter could have a shot.  Drum roll please…

PICK: Colt McCoy: He completed 78% of his passes and led his team in rushing.  Did Tim Tebow do that?
DARKHORSE PICK: Kendall Hunter: He’s one of the most explosive runners in college football (career 6.5 YPC).
SUPER DUPER DARKHORSE PICK: Julio Jones: JJ = unstoppable monster.

For the BCS National Championship, I’ll put my Longhorns in there. The Horns have an extremely favorable schedule outside of the Big 12 South slate. I’d really like to pick Florida, but going 1-2 for the BCS title game is pretty weak. Oklahoma can’t play Texas (in all likelihood) and I can’t put USC or ‘Bama in the big game with green QBs. Out of the remaining top 10 teams, I like Ohio State, LSU, and Ole Miss the most. The SEC will be a slugfest, so it’ll be tough for any of those teams to make it out alive. The Buckeyes seem to have a fairly easy schedule playing in the relatively weak Big 10. The highest ranked opponent in the Buckeyes’ path is #4 USC. Luckily for Ohio State, they face them in the second week of the season at the Horseshoe. That means USC’s freshman quarterback Matt Barkley will be playing in his second game in front of 100,000 people.  As long as Ohio State doesn’t stumble against a conference foe, they have a legitimate shot at the Rose Bowl. Yep, I predict a Fiesta Bowl rematch. And pencil in Pryor for a 4th place finish in the Heisman voting. Now that I look sufficiently foolish, below are some links to recent college football happenings.

ROSE BOWL: Texas vs. Ohio State

NEWS & NOTES

Kirk Herbstreit makes Colt McCoy his Heisman pick. Vondrell McGee was named Texas starting running back.

LA Times says it’s too much, too soon for Barkley.

Florida Gators to plan to use DE Justin Trattou as a tight end in certain situation.

Miami coach Randy Shannon held a 5:45AM practice.  The U sucks now.

Former Syracuse QB Don McPherson thinks Greg Paulus will succeed. Paulus threw for 11,763 yards and 152 TDs in his high school career.

Oklahoma Sooners may be lacking receiver depth.
